HELPFUL HINTS
I THINK I HAVE A LEAK - WHAT DO I DO?
HOW TO DETECT LEAKS

The best way to determine if you have a leak in your plumbing system is by first checking your water meter. If you do not know where your meter is located, you can call McClave Water Association to get the meter location.
1. Make sure no water is being used inside or outside of your house.
2. With the installation of the new Kamstrup meters, to check for a leak, you can look at the meter face and it will flash the word "LEAK" on the screen. The picture below shows where you can find this information.

All water meters in the system will have the ability to be monitored by the customer for abnormal usage and water leaks by the end of 2023. Customers will need to setup an account at https://mcclco.aquahawk.us/login. Once an account is setup then customers can set custom thresholds regarding water usage. The system will notify you by email or text messaging when a threshold has been exceeded. You can contact the office to inquire as to whether your meter currently has this capability. This is a great tool to be able to catch a problem quickly and we highly recommend using this system.
Once you have determined that you have a leak, the next step is to determine if the leak is inside or outside the house. 1. Locate the main shut-off valve to your home and shut off the water at the valve. 2. Check the meter face again and if the water flow has stopped the word LEAK will not be visible shortly after the flow has stopped. The meter reading method described above can be used by watching for any change in the meter readings. If there is a change then this would indicate that the leak is between the meter and the main shut off valve.
INSIDE THE HOUSE - LIKELY LEAK CULPRITS
1. Leaking faucets
2. Leaking toilets
3. Flapper valve/flush handle/overflow tubes on toilet
4. Water softeners
5. Ice makers
OUTSIDE THE HOUSE - LIKELY LEAK CULPRITS
1. Hydrants
2. Underground pipes - look for a patch of grass or weeds that stays green or is greener than the rest and/or wet/damp areas
